The on-trend colours of 2021 which could be perfect for a new kitchen...

Every year there is a fair bit of kerfuffle about which new colour trends will lead the way for interiors and fashion.

Trend analysts, fashionistas and designers all contribute to the discussions and development, gathering influences to add into their mood boards, with the intention of building palettes that we’ll all fall in love with.

Many design led companies (including our favourite paint producers) use this trend-forecasting info to help shape their product lines and The Pantone Color Institute trail-blazes by coming up with their ‘Colour of the Year’. As expert colour and brand experts, Pantone take their Colour of the Year selection process very seriously and gathering the relevant insight draws influence from across the globe, from the entertainment industry and films, art collections, new artists, fashion, design, travel destinations, and our eclectic lifestyles.

For 2021, Pantone have hedged their bets slightly and chosen a combination of two colours.

It’s no surprise that coming up with a single colour to sum up a year starting off in a pandemic is a bit of a challenge. The two colours : Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and Pantone 13-0647 Illuminating, have in theory been chosen because they highlight how different elements come together to support one another (the grey makes the yellow colour pop). The mid grey is practical and rock solid and the yellow is warming and optimistic - so the combination of the two has been chosen to represent the strength and positivity we could all do with right now. The grey is selected to reflect the deeper feelings of thoughtfulness we’re all harbouring and the yellow promises sunnier, friendlier times.

At Blackbrook Kitchens, we’re big fans of pops of colour in the kitchen so bringing a soft dove grey alongside a cheery yellow would be right up our street.

Eco-paint producers Painthouse love a splash of uplifting yellow in the kitchen (and their paints are really hardwearing too). They have a lovely selection that’s bang on trend with Pantone’s 2021 colours so maybe that could be the start point for your 2021 kitchen redesign? Check out www.painthouse.co.uk

It’s been selected to bring a bolstering, balancing feel to any room and can be combined with a myriad of other colours, whilst still letting them shine individually. We think it’s got loads of potential for bringing a contemporary feel to your kitchen, or for combining with the rustic or artisan elements we love to incorporate within our kitchen designs. Dulux have chosen Brave Ground because they see it as a great colour to provide a solid and supportive foundation for building an individual and creative interior space - and we agree that it would be a fantastic colour to base a stylish kitchen or kitchen diner design around. You can find some brilliant colour inspiration at www.dulux.co.uk.

The colour alchemists at Farrow & Ball haven’t hung their hat on one specific colour but they do have some lovely suggested colour families that they think will be perfect for kitchen projects in 2021.
